The Happier The Hotelier, The Happier the Guest

Mar 2
The Hotel Concorde Berlin is new and has big rooms, and beyond that, it looks like kind of a boring place. (I can’t remember the last time I saw a would-be stylish hotel tout its “American chestnut furniture.”) But the rooms are indeed big for Berlin, or for Europe in general — “superior” and “deluxe” rooms are 430 to 538 square feet. And they are pleasant enough in decor, though generically chainy. Set on the Kurfuerstendamm, it’s not in a bad neighborhood necessarily, but it still seems ready to whisper in your ear, “sure, I’m a business hotel really, but I promise I’ll show you good time.” At least there’s a restaurant on-site, and more importantly, a bar. Rates normally start at 230 per night, though they’re having opening specials starting at 109 per night through February 28.
