A traveler friend once told us that there were two different types of travelers. Those who just desperately wanted to see the world — those who were willing to stay in youth hostel after youth hostel to do it — and those who wanted to be able to tell everyone they’d seen the world. “These are the type of people who will stay in expensive, fancy, completely uncomfortable hotels,” our friend said. We thought of our friend when we saw The Cool Hunter’s review of the new Q hotel in Berlin. The hotel is considered an architectual masterpiece, thoroughly planned out by the design firm CRAFT and is absolutely gorgeous. It also, apparently, means something. “Guests change their interaction with furniture and architecture and become the actors on the lifestyle stage,” says (architecture critic) Thomas Willemeit. “By formally connecting the rooms a feeling of ‘being cocooned’ arises. It is as if the room has been formed by movement.” Again, two different types of traveler. Some people might enjoy something like that. Personally, we just hope the bed is fluffy.
